Dhaka, Mar 11 (V7N) – Nazim Uddin Ahmed, a former MP from Lakshmipur-1 constituency and a senior BNP leader, has passed away at the age of 56. He breathed his last at his residence in Banani, Dhaka, around midnight on Monday.
His nephew, Hasibul Siddique, an associate professor at Lakshmipur Government College, confirmed the news.
Nazim Uddin Ahmed was a prominent political figure and a member of the BNP National Executive Committee. He was elected to parliament twice—first as an independent candidate in the sixth national parliamentary election of February 1996, and again as a BNP candidate in the ninth national parliamentary election in 2008.
Several BNP leaders have expressed deep sorrow over his passing. Central BNP Joint General Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said:
"Nazim Uddin Ahmed was a dedicated worker of BNP until his death. With his passing, BNP has lost a senior politician."
Other BNP figures, including Begum Khaleda Zia’s advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan, district BNP member secretary Shahabuddin Sabu, and joint convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman, also mourned his death.
Born in 1968 in a respected family in Bhadur Miabari of Ramganj Upazila, Lakshmipur, Nazim Uddin Ahmed leaves behind his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
His funeral prayers will be held at:
Ramganj Government College Grounds – 2:00 PM on Tuesday
Batur High School Grounds in his village – 2:30 PM
He will be laid to rest in the family graveyard.
