Thakurgaon, Apr 02 (V7N) – BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that false propaganda is being spread on social media regarding BNP’s stance on elections and reforms. He dismissed the rumors that BNP prioritizes elections over reforms or that the party is against reform initiatives.

Speaking at a meeting with journalists at his residence in Thakurgaon on Wednesday morning, Mirza Fakhrul made it clear that BNP has never stated "elections first, reforms later." He emphasized that such statements are deliberate distortions aimed at misleading the public.

He reiterated that BNP’s primary demand has always been electoral reforms to ensure free and fair elections. He stressed that necessary reforms must be implemented before any national elections take place. He urged people not to be misled by fabricated narratives circulating online.

Addressing the broader political landscape, Mirza Fakhrul stated that every political party’s connection with the people is crucial. While BNP respects those who are currently in government, he made it clear that BNP will not support any decision that goes against the will of the people.

He also highlighted the importance of democracy, stating that it is the best form of governance. He warned that if any political party turns dictatorial after assuming power, the people will remove them, citing the Awami League as an example of such a downfall.

Several district and upazila BNP leaders and activists were present during the discussion, where the party's stance on governance, democracy, and reforms was reiterated.
