Dhaka, Oct 09 (V7N) – Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ms. Susan Ryle paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at the party chief’s office in Bashundhara, Dhaka, on Thursday morning.

The meeting, held at around 9 a.m., was attended by Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobke, Political First Secretary Ms. Anna Peterson, and four other representatives from the Australian High Commission.

On behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, and Central Majlis-e-Shura Member Maulana Yasin Arafat were present.

Discussions were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. The High Commissioner inquired about Dr. Rahman’s health and wished him a speedy recovery at the beginning of the meeting.

The two sides discussed the role of Jamaat-e-Islami in strengthening democracy and ensuring meaningful participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Jamaat leaders highlighted the party’s stance on women’s rights and participation in social, economic, and administrative sectors.

The dialogue also touched on Bangladesh’s economic potential, particularly in the energy and ready-made garment (RMG) industries. The High Commissioner praised Jamaat’s efforts toward building a corruption-free society and expressed optimism about enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The meeting concluded with discussions on potential partnerships between Australia and Bangladesh in skills development programs and other areas of mutual interest.
