Dhaka, Nov 08 (V7N) — BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has urged political parties and citizens to remain cautious, warning that clashes could erupt if major parties take to the streets simultaneously.
He made the remarks while speaking at a seminar held at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Saturday (November 8).
Amir Khasru emphasized the importance of maintaining respect for issues on which political consensus has already been reached. “After long discussions, the issues on which we have reached agreement must be respected. There should also be further discussion on their implementation. As for matters where consensus is lacking — the people will decide,” he said.
He also accused some political groups of trying to “determine the fate of the people,” warning against any unilateral political moves.
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, who also attended the seminar, stated that national elections will be held in February. He added, “If political parties cannot come to a decision on the July Charter, it is the government’s responsibility to move forward.”
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad claimed that no formal agreement had been signed regarding the implementation of the July Charter, saying the government’s initiative to enforce it had sparked political disputes.
