Dhaka, Dec 20 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman cut short his official visit to London and returned to Dhaka on Saturday to attend the funeral of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
According to a video published on the party’s verified Facebook page, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman went directly from the airport to the cold storage room of the National Heart Institute to pay his last respects to Sharif Osman Hadi. Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Central Executive Council member Md. Mubarak Hossain, and other party leaders were present at the time.
Later, in a Facebook post, the Jamaat Ameer wrote, “I have cut short my London trip to attend the funeral of Shaheed Osman Hadi and arrived in Dhaka this morning. Alhamdulillah. I went straight from the airport to see Shaheed Osman Hadi. I spoke with his family members, but words fall short in comforting them in such a moment of grief. May Allah Almighty grant patience and strength to the family and the people of the country.”
Describing Sharif Osman Hadi as a national symbol, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “Shaheed Osman Hadi does not belong to any party or ideology—he is a symbol of the sovereignty of the country. I urge everyone to rise above party lines and opinions and participate in his funeral. Paying the highest respect to this heroic son of the nation is our collective responsibility.”
He further added that building the Bangladesh envisioned by Hadi is a shared duty of all citizens and prayed for his acceptance as a martyr in Jannatul Firdaus.
Meanwhile, the body of Sharif Osman Hadi was taken to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy at around 9:40 am on Saturday. The body was transferred from the National Heart Institute’s cold storage amid tight security provided by the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, and other law enforcement agencies. Family members, fellow activists, and colleagues were present during the transfer.
