Dhaka, Aug 04 (V7N) – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has strongly urged the government to resign instead of prolonging its tenure and engaging in violence. His statement, issued on Saturday, criticized the government's alleged crackdown on students and condemned the use of force.

Fakhrul called on law enforcement and the administration to halt the alleged torture and shootings of students, which he claims are being carried out under the directives of the Awami League regime. He demanded an immediate end to what he described as government-led violence, torture, and suppression, urging the authorities to address student demands without further delay or bloodshed.

The BNP leader also demanded the unconditional release of BNP and other opposition party leaders, workers, and students who have been arrested under false pretenses. Additionally, he called for the withdrawal of all related cases.

Fakhrul accused the government of exacerbating national conflict by arming ruling party cadres to quell student protests through violence and intimidation. He condemned these actions as indicative of the government's fascist tendencies and criticized its response to the student-led mass movement.

“The Awami League government is solely responsible for the violence, destruction, and chaos,” Fakhrul asserted, attributing the brutal suppression of the student protests to the ruling party’s actions. He accused the government of committing atrocities against students and innocent children, emphasizing the severe impact of their crackdown.

Fakhrul also denounced ongoing attacks on students and civilians in various regions, including Cumilla, Jamalpur, and Sylhet, by law enforcement and ruling party members. He condemned these attacks and the related 'arrest trade' as acts of harassment and violence against innocent individuals.
