Dhaka, Nov 06 (V7N) — The government will not show leniency towards influential criminals, declared retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor, at a press briefing after a meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) officials at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning. Emphasizing a commitment to enforce law and order, Chowdhury assured that the situation has improved significantly from the past.

The advisor noted that recent crime incidents in the Mohammadpur area of the capital are now under control, and efforts are underway to stabilize conditions across the entire city. Chowdhury mentioned that recent police transfers across Dhaka are part of a strategic approach to strengthening law enforcement, though it may require time to take full effect.

Furthermore, he highlighted upcoming restrictions on road activities to reduce congestion and promote safety. “Mobile shops will no longer be allowed on roads, and we are working to prevent battery-powered auto-rickshaws from operating on main thoroughfares,” he stated, adding that these steps are essential to restoring order on the streets. He also warned that strict measures will be enforced against those engaged in extortion.

The Home Affairs Advisor's statements reflect the government’s stance on ensuring accountability and the promise to take robust action to sustain law and order across the capital.
