Chattogram, Nov 06 (V7N)- In a joint operation, law enforcement detained 80 individuals in Chittagong's Hazari Goli area under Kotwali police jurisdiction on Tuesday after a violent clash injured seven police officers.

The disturbance began when police intervened in a confrontation outside Miah Shopping Center, where shop owner Osman Mollah had shared a Facebook post concerning the Hindu religious group Iskcon. This post sparked tensions, drawing a group from the local Hindu community who surrounded his shop and allegedly held him hostage.

When police arrived to deescalate the situation, they were met with attacks involving acid, bricks, and sticks, leading to injuries among the officers. Among those injured was Assistant Commissioner of Police Mahfuzur Rahman, who sustained minor acid burns, according to Kazi Md Tarek Aziz, additional deputy commissioner (media) for Chittagong Metropolitan Police.

Following the assault, security forces swiftly launched a joint operation to restore order, detaining 80 people. Authorities are currently verifying the detainees; those found uninvolved will be released, while participants in the assault will face legal action.
