Dhaka, Dec 25, (V7N) - A massive fire broke out at Building 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat late at night, prompting an immediate response from the fire service. Eighteen units are currently engaged in controlling the blaze.

The fire started at 1:52 AM on Wednesday (December 25). Upon receiving the report, seven fire service units rushed to the scene. Firefighters reached the location at 1:54 AM, according to fire service sources.

Within moments, the fire escalated and spread to three additional floors. Subsequently, 11 more fire service units joined, bringing the total to 18 units actively working to control the fire. Duty Officer Rafi Al Faruq from the fire service control room confirmed the information.

He stated that the fire was reported at 1:52 AM, and two units stationed at the Secretariat quickly started firefighting operations. The situation remains critical, with 18 units on-site battling the fire.

Additionally, two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed at the scene, according to the BGB headquarters. Members of the Army, Police, and Armed Police Battalion (APBN) have also been dispatched to assist the fire service in their operations.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and preliminary estimates of the damage have not been disclosed.

According to the Cabinet Division's website, Building 7 houses various departments of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Ministry of Labor and Employment, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
