Dhaka, Jan 13 (V7N)- The fourth day of appeal hearings to regain candidacy in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections began at 10:00 am on Tuesday and is scheduled to continue until 5:00 pm.
According to the Election Commission (EC), appeals numbered 211 to 280 are being heard today. Candidates from various constituencies across the country are presenting their arguments against decisions made by returning officers that cancelled or rejected their nominations.
Earlier, on the third day of hearings, the Election Commission disposed of 71 appeal applications. Of these, 41 candidacies were restored, 25 applications were rejected, and four appeals were kept pending for further review.
During the previous hearings, the EC rejected the appeal of Hasnat Qayyum, president of the Rashtra Sanskar Andolon, who was contesting as an independent candidate from the Kishoreganj-5 constituency.
In addition, the appeal of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate AKM Fazlul Haque for the Chattogram-9 constituency was rejected on grounds of dual citizenship, which disqualifies a candidate under election laws.
The appeal hearings are a crucial step in finalizing the list of candidates ahead of the parliamentary polls, as they provide an opportunity for aggrieved aspirants to seek reconsideration of their nominations.
