Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N) — Postgraduate trainee doctors have ended their strike and agitation after the government issued a notification increasing their monthly allowance to Tk 35,000. The doctors announced that they would resume work from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the conference room of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday afternoon.
As per the notification, the monthly allowance for trainee doctors will be raised from Tk 25,000 to Tk 30,000 starting in January 2025, and further increased to Tk 35,000 from July 2025.
The trainee doctors expressed their satisfaction with the decision but issued a warning. They stated that they would restart their movement if the promised allowances are not implemented as per the notification or if there are discrepancies in payments.
The withdrawal of the strike brings relief to the healthcare sector, which had been facing disruptions due to the protests.
