Dhaka, Jan 20, (V7N) - On Monday, the nationwide voter list update process begins for the seventh time. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasiruddin will officially launch this update drive, which will take place in Savar.
 
According to Mohammad Shariful Alam, the Director of Public Relations at the Election Commission (EC), the event will be inaugurated by the CEC and other election commissioners at 10:30 AM at the Savar Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Dhaka district.
 
Mohammad Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Election Assistance Branch, stated that after the data collection phase, the next step of capturing photographs for registration will start on February 5 and continue until April 11.
 
The CEC announced that the registration process is expected to be completed within the next six months, with 65,000 staff members assigned to the task. The goal is to add 1.52% of the citizens to the voter list during this process.
 
Meanwhile, the final phase of updating voter data from 2022, based on three years of collected information, is ongoing. Around 1.8 million new voters are expected to be added by March. According to the latest update, the total voter population in the country is 121.85 million.
 
Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanuallah mentioned that about 4 to 4.5 million new voters may be included in this update. The goal is to ensure the accuracy of the voter list by removing duplicate voters, deleting deceased individuals, and including new voters.
 
The Election Commission has updated the voter list six times before, following the introduction of the photo-based voter list in 2007-2008. The previous updates took place in 2009-2010, 2012-2013, 2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2019-2020, and 2022-2023 through house-to-house campaigns.
 
Documents Required for New Voter Registration:
 
A copy of the 17-digit online birth certificate.
A copy of the nationality/citizenship certificate.
A photocopy of a close relative's National ID (father/mother, brother/sister, etc.).
A copy of the SSC/Dakhil/equivalent certificate, or eighth-grade pass certificate (if applicable).
A copy of a utility bill (electricity, gas, water, or security receipts).
Important Points to Ensure During Voter Registration:
 
Your name, your parents' names, and your birth date must match exactly with your birth registration or educational certificate.
The birth date must match the information in the birth registration or educational certificate.
Make sure to write your actual permanent address when filling in the details.
Do not attempt to register as a voter more than once.
The Election Commission has warned that multiple voter registrations are a punishable offense under the law. Such attempts are easily detectable through fingerprint verification.
 
This voter list update aims to ensure an accurate and reliable electoral process in Bangladesh.
