Dhaka, Feb 01 (V7N) — The Ministry of Education has issued a statement regarding the ongoing movement demanding the transformation of Government Titumir College into a university.

The Ministry of Education released the statement on Saturday.

The statement informs that the Ministry of Education and the government are aware of the ongoing movement demanding the transformation of Government Titumir College into a university.

It further states that a committee of experts, led by the chairman of the UGC, has been formed to establish a separate university consisting of seven historic colleges of Dhaka.

In this context, the matter of Government Titumir College is being given special consideration.

The statement mentions that the committee has already begun discussions with the student representatives of Titumir College and the other six colleges about their issues.

The government’s primary focus is on improving these colleges' educational opportunities, facilities, and quality, and all possible alternatives are being considered.

In this situation, the ministry requests that there is no justification for setting a time limit for the demand to convert Titumir College into a university through protests. Therefore, all participants in the movement are urged to remain patient.

The ministry also calls on the protestors to refrain from activities that create public inconvenience or disrupt the regular educational activities of the general students.

The statement concludes by reassuring that the government is always aware of and sympathetic towards the legitimate demands of teachers and students at all levels.

It is worth mentioning that while the government has agreed to create a separate university for the seven government colleges, students of Government Titumir College have been protesting and holding hunger strikes demanding the establishment of “Titumir University”.

On January 29, students began an indefinite hunger strike in front of the college gate.
