Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N) – 1,522 police personnel who were dismissed under the Awami League government are set to be reinstated following a comprehensive review by the Police Headquarters. The announcement was made by AIG (Media and PR) Enamul Haque Sagar, who confirmed the decision to the media on Thursday.
The Police Headquarters revealed that the reinstatement process began in August 2024, when a committee headed by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) was formed to assess the applications submitted by the dismissed officers. After thorough scrutiny, the committee submitted a report recommending the reinstatement of 1,522 officers whose cases were deemed valid.
“All members who have won their appeals in the Administrative Tribunal have been instructed to be reinstated,” said Enamul Haque Sagar. The process reflects the department’s commitment to addressing grievances and ensuring that those who were wrongfully dismissed receive justice.
However, the Police Headquarters clarified that not all dismissed officers are eligible for reinstatement. “Due to legal obstacles, the reinstatement of those who did not file a departmental appeal against their dismissal could not be considered,” the statement read.
Additionally, officers with pending criminal cases involving moral turpitude, financial corruption, or other serious charges are ineligible for reinstatement. The department emphasized that these exclusions are essential to maintaining the integrity of the police force.
The Police Headquarters urged the reinstated officers to maintain discipline and uphold the values of the police force. “We are working sincerely to ensure that all dismissed members receive justice, but we also request them to avoid undisciplined behavior,” the headquarters stated.
This large-scale reinstatement comes at a time of significant institutional reform within the police force, as the government seeks to address issues of accountability and transparency in law enforcement. The decision is expected to have a substantial impact on the morale and operations of the police force across the country.
As the reinstatement process proceeds, further scrutiny may arise regarding the circumstances of the original dismissals, and how these reinstatements align with broader efforts to reform Bangladesh’s law enforcement system.
