Rajshahi, Feb 23 (V7N) – Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor to the interim government, has urged the Bangladesh Police to remain neutral and professional, emphasizing that the force should never become a messenger of any political party.
He made these remarks on Sunday while addressing the closing parade of the 40th BCS Police Cadre trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi.
Police Must Be Committed to Rule of Law
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury reminded the newly trained officers that they are independent employees of the Republic, bound by the laws of the state rather than any political agenda.
“We want Bangladesh Police to work tirelessly to ensure security and uphold the rule of law for all citizens. They should never act unprofessionally or carry out illegal orders that serve a political party’s interests. Today, you must take an oath to be strong and uphold justice without bias,” he said.
He also urged them to perform their duties with professionalism, sincerity, and responsibility, ensuring that citizens do not face harassment when seeking assistance from the police.
A New Chapter for Bangladesh Police
Referring to student and public movements in 2014 against discrimination, the Home Affairs Advisor emphasized that police officers must continue to uphold their reputation and commitment to justice.
"Your one-year basic training ends today, but your real journey begins now. From today, you will directly work in the field to establish the rule of law and serve the citizens of Bangladesh,” he told the new officers.
