Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that there will be no rigged elections in the country as seen in the past, asserting that the Election Commission (EC) is committed to ensuring justice and transparency in the electoral process.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Thursday morning after visiting the booth set up at the Election Commission Secretariat for filing appeals against the acceptance and cancellation of nomination papers.
“The Election Commission believes in justice, and everyone will receive justice from the commission,” the CEC said. He added that all appeals would be resolved strictly on legal grounds. “We believe in transparency and will ensure equal opportunities and a level playing field for all candidates,” he said.
Meanwhile, candidates from different parts of the country have been arriving at the Election Commission since morning to file appeals. According to EC sources, 18 appeals were submitted on Thursday morning alone.
The deadline for filing appeals will end on Friday, while hearings on the appeals are scheduled to take place from January 10 to January 18.
Earlier, a total of 295 appeal applications were submitted over the past three days following decisions on nomination papers.
The Election Commission said the appeal process is being conducted in accordance with electoral laws and regulations to ensure fairness and credibility in the upcoming election.
