Dhaka, Feb 18 (V7N) — Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir announced on Wednesday that the government is working to postpone Bangladesh’s Least Developed Country (LDC) graduation transition by three years. He spoke to reporters at the Secretariat, saying that the Commerce Ministry has already begun preparations for this effort.
The minister outlined that the government is taking immediate steps to develop a detailed plan for the postponement. “We are starting work on this from today,” he said, emphasizing the urgency given the short reaction time.
Regarding market supply ahead of Ramadan, Minister Muktadir assured the public, “There is no shortage of products in the market. There will be no crisis during Ramadan. InshaAllah, we will show results in action, not just in words.”
On exports, the minister highlighted the country’s current dependency on a narrow range of products, noting that 85 percent of exports come from a single product category. He said the government’s goal is to diversify the export portfolio, support new entrepreneurs, and expand market access for a wider range of products in the future.
This announcement comes as part of the new government’s early initiatives to strengthen trade policy, ensure economic stability, and safeguard domestic supply during Ramadan.
