Dhaka, April 27 (V7N) — Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today termed Bangladesh a promising destination for investment and urged foreign entrepreneurs to invest in the country.  

 

He made the call during a meeting with US Ambassador Brent T. Christensen at his Secretariat office, a PID handout said.  

 

The minister said the government has emphasized expanding private sector participation in development activities and highlighted the need for increased technical assistance, research, and investment. Priority sectors include water supply, agriculture, infrastructure development, and rural communication.  

 

Mirza Fakhrul noted that the USA has long played a significant role in strengthening research institutions in the region and expressed hope that cooperation would expand further.  

 

Ambassador Christensen stressed coordinated initiatives in areas of mutual interest, particularly agriculture, energy support, and renewable energy, including solar power.  

 

Both sides expressed optimism that Bangladesh–US cooperation and partnership would accelerate development and progress in the future.  

 

Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hassan and Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury were present at the meeting.
