DHAKA, May 09, (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman underscored that reinstating citizens’ trust in the police and fortifying law and order remains the foremost agenda of his administration.
In a formal message marking National Police Week 2026, which commences tomorrow with a four‑day observance, the premier emphasized that a disciplined and accountable police institution is indispensable for safeguarding state equilibrium and public assurance. He described the week as a pivotal occasion for the force to reaffirm its pledge to be a dependable guardian of society.
Rahman asserted that the government is pursuing an extensive blueprint to construct a prosperous, autonomous, and justice‑oriented democracy. Yet, he cautioned that such aspirations cannot be realized unless public life is secured and tranquil.
He lauded the police’s consistent professionalism during national crises and highlighted their exemplary role in the recent general election, noting that efficiency flourishes when the force operates in a congenial environment. Beyond domestic duties, he praised their distinguished service in UN peacekeeping missions, which has elevated Bangladesh’s global stature.
The Prime Minister remarked that after nearly fifteen years, a democratic government has been established through a free and fair election, restoring peace and relief to the populace. Citizens now aspire to a nation liberated from the specter of enforced disappearances, abductions, and pervasive fear.
Accordingly, Rahman urged the police to assume a paramount role in sustaining societal calm. He called for intensified efforts against mob violence, juvenile gangs, and narcotics, stressing that such vigilance is indispensable to preserve state stability and ensure the continuity of democratic progress.
Conveying greetings to both former and current members of the police force, the premier extended his best wishes for the success of Police Week 2026.
