RAJSHAHI, May 10 (V7N) – Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. SM Abdur Razzak has called on new students to focus on innovation and technology creation, stressing that Bangladesh must become self-sufficient in engineering and technological advancement rather than remaining dependent on consumption.

Speaking as chief guest at the orientation program for first-year undergraduate students of the 2025–2026 academic year, Dr. Razzak said: “Your job will be to transform science into technology. As engineers, we will have to create new technologies ourselves. We will not just be users of technology, we will create technology, export technology. The people who are most needed to fulfill this goal are engineering students.”

A total of 1,235 students from 14 departments across three faculties attended the orientation sessions at the RUET auditorium. Classes for first-year students will begin Sunday (May 10).

Highlighting the importance of preparation, the Vice Chancellor told students: “The time to prepare for achieving your goals is now, that is, the next four years. If you fail to prepare, then you are preparing to accept failure. Along with being a good engineer, you have to develop as a good citizen. Along with RUET, the reputation and glory of our country depends on you.” He also congratulated parents for their role in bringing students to this stage.

The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarkar, Director of the Student Welfare Department, who emphasized creating a safe and student-friendly environment. He noted that anti-ragging and anti-bullying policies are being implemented, health insurance initiatives introduced, and housing ensured for 100% of female students and 80% of male students.

Special guests included the deans of the three faculties: Professor Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman (Civil Engineering), Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmed (Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam (Mechanical Engineering), along with heads of 14 departments.
