Putrajaya, Jun 22 (V7N) – Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya on Monday morning, focusing on key issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim formally welcomed the Bangladeshi leader on the second day of his brief official visit to Malaysia. Tarique Rahman was accorded a red-carpet reception and received a guard of honor upon arrival at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a range of bilateral issues, including the reopening of Malaysia's labor market for Bangladeshi workers and measures to regularize the status of undocumented Bangladeshis currently residing in the Southeast Asian nation.
Officials said three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and several exchange notes are expected to be signed following the talks, aimed at strengthening cooperation in various sectors between the two countries.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday evening after departing Bangladesh at 2:45 p.m. Bangladesh time. He reached the Malaysian capital at 8:35 p.m. local time.
Following his engagements in Malaysia, including meetings and courtesy calls with senior officials, the Prime Minister is scheduled to depart for China as part of his ongoing diplomatic tour.
The visit is expected to further enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation in labor, trade and other strategic areas between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
