Dhaka, Jul 23 (V7N)- Muzaffar Hossain, an accused in the assassination case of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, has been arrested in a separate case involving allegations of crimes against humanity.
He was produced before International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Thursday (July 23) morning. Following a petition from the prosecution, the tribunal ordered his arrest in the crimes against humanity case and granted investigators permission to interrogate him for two days.
Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam said preliminary investigations uncovered evidence linking Muzaffar Hossain to various alleged crimes, ranging from controversial activities during the 11th government to events surrounding the July 2024 political unrest. He said former army officer Masud Uddin Chowdhury is also being investigated in connection with the case.
Earlier, the tribunal had issued a production warrant against Muzaffar Hossain over allegations of involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Awami League administration. In compliance with that order, he was produced before the tribunal on Thursday.
According to officials, Muzaffar Hossain was arrested by members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) from the Banani DOHS area of the capital on the night of July 15. The arrest became public the following day. Later that evening, he was reportedly taken into military custody.
The investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
