Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N)- Chief of the Bangladesh Navy Khondaker Misbah-ul-Azeem has been promoted to the rank of Admiral.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the promotion in a press release issued on Sunday.

Admiral Khondaker Misbah-ul-Azeem assumed office as the Chief of the Bangladesh Navy on July 23. Earlier, a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Defence MJ Arif Beg stated that he had been appointed as Navy Chief for a three-year term ending on July 22, 2029.

Khondaker Misbah-ul-Azeem joined the Bangladesh Navy on January 1, 1987, and was commissioned into the Executive Branch in 1989. He completed his initial training with distinction in the Royal Malaysian Navy. He later received higher education and military training both at home and abroad and earned a PhD in Maritime Governance.

During his nearly four-decade-long career, he has held several key command, staff and training positions in the Bangladesh Navy. His assignments included Commander Chittagong Naval Region, Commander Dhaka Naval Region, Commander Submarine and Commandant of the Bangladesh Naval Academy.

He also served as Director of Naval Operations and Director of Naval Planning at Naval Headquarters and commanded various warships and naval bases.

Admiral Khondaker Misbah-ul-Azeem has also served in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Most recently, he served as Bangladesh's Ambassador to Oman, where he played an important role in strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Oman and promoting the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates.

In recognition of his nearly 40 years of service and contributions, he has received several medals and honours, including the Navy Medal (NBP), Naval Proficiency Medal (NPP) and the National Integrity Award.
