DHAKA, August 23 (V7N)— The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed introducing an "education diplomacy" service at Bangladesh's overseas diplomatic missions, along with establishing a dedicated emergency hotline to support female migrant workers abroad.

The recommendations were put forward during the inaugural meeting of the parliamentary standing committee for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, held at the Parliament Secretariat under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman Jahrat Adib Chowdhury. Both Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam expressed their full agreement with the proposals.

Strategic Priorities and Action Plans

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the foreign ministry’s achievements over the past six months and examined its work plan for the next 180 days. Members provided strategic input to make diplomatic operations more coordinated and result-driven.

Key outcomes and decisions from the committee meeting include:

  • Preventing Illegal Migration: The panel scheduled detailed discussions for its upcoming session to outline specific measures preventing illegal migration to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other destination countries.

  • Diplomatic Recognition: The committee praised Bangladesh's growing international standing, citing the Prime Minister’s recent official visits to Malaysia and China as clear signs of expanding global confidence in the government.

  • UNGA Presidency Felicitation: The committee unanimously passed a resolution congratulating and thanking Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The meeting was attended by committee members including State Minister Shama Obaed Islam, Md. Amanullah Aman, Humam Quader Chowdhury, SK Azizul Bari, Sayeed Al Noman, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Sanjida Islam, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and Atikur Rahman Mojahid.

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman attended as a special invitee. Newly appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir was unable to attend due to a pre-scheduled foreign visit. Foreign Secretary and senior officials from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliament Secretariat were also present.
