Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N) – The government has appointed former National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan as Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank's Washington-based headquarters, representing Bangladesh for a three-year term .

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification on Saturday regarding his appointment on a contractual basis by suspending his post-retirement leave and related benefits .

According to the notification, Khan will serve as Alternate Executive Director for three years from the date of his joining, subject to the condition that he severs all employment or professional relations with any other profession, business, government or semi-government office, private institution or organisation . Other terms and conditions of his appointment will be determined through the relevant contract, the notification said, adding that the order was issued in the public interest .

Khan, a career civil servant of the 13th BCS (Taxation) batch, assumed the dual role of Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and NBR Chairman on August 15, 2024 . He concluded his tenure as the head of the country's revenue administration on June 29, 2026 . Prior to this, he served as Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division .

A highly accomplished civil servant with extensive experience in financial administration and public policy, he has previously served as an International Advisor to the United Nations and a Petroleum Tax Consultant to the World Bank in East Timor . His appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Bangladesh's representation and partnership with international lending bodies .
