Dhaka, Nov 02 (V7N)- A total of 529 garment factories across several industrial areas in Bangladesh have declared holidays amid growing worker dissatisfaction, raising concerns over a possible prolonged disruption in the country's largest export-oriented sector.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) disclosed the information on Sunday evening, November 1, amid escalating unrest in the garment industry.

BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan warned that factory owners could be forced to shut down all factories if the situation does not improve quickly.

According to the BGMEA, production has already been suspended at numerous factories in Dhaka metropolitan areas, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Savar, Ashulia and Jirani.

The latest developments come amid ongoing protests by garment workers demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000, an end to blacklisting practices and the reinstatement of dismissed workers.

The continued unrest has raised fears of an indefinite production halt, potentially affecting Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) industry, which remains the country's largest export-earning sector.

The situation has placed factory owners and industry stakeholders under growing pressure as concerns mount over the potential economic impact of prolonged industrial disruption.
