Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the term 2025-2027, receiving 181 out of 189 votes at the UN headquarters in New York. Other elected countries from the same region include Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is making significant strides towards achieving Agenda 2030 and “Vision 2041: Transforming Bangladesh into a Smart Nation.” This election victory is seen as a global acknowledgment of Bangladesh's development success.
Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN, recently elected Chair of the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the UN General Assembly, highlighted the importance of ECOSOC membership for Bangladesh’s sustainable development goals and its graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
