Dhaka, July 28— The government has extended the curfew relaxation period for the first three working days of the week, from Sunday to Tuesday. According to the new decision, there will be no restrictions from 7 am to 6 pm on these days.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal announced this decision on Saturday night following a meeting with senior law enforcement and intelligence officials at his residence in Dhanmondi.

"The situation is gradually improving, becoming normal," the Home Minister said. "At some point, when normalcy returns to the people, we will lift the curfew."

Addressing the violence that began on July 18, which resulted in the deaths of several people, including policemen, the minister emphasized accountability. "Those who called the movement and diverted it should be held accountable," he stated.

The Home Minister also discussed the new program announced by quota activists, urging them to withdraw it. "If the movement is not withdrawn, they cannot avoid responsibility," he added.

He revealed that five coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, which is leading the quota movement, have been taken into custody for security reasons. "These coordinators have mentioned many names during interrogation, and we are verifying that information," the minister said.

Earlier, he noted that the coordinators had expressed security concerns to their relatives, leading to their custody for protection. Three were brought from Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi, and two more were taken into custody the next day.

The violence began on July 18 during a shutdown called by students, resulting in clashes with the police and the loss of lives, including students and police officers. Government facilities were attacked, prompting the imposition of a curfew and the deployment of army personnel nationwide.

Initially, the curfew was relaxed for two hours in Dhaka for urgent work. The relaxation period gradually increased, allowing limited office openings from Wednesday. On Thursday, the government announced a relaxation from 9 am to 5 pm for Friday and Saturday.

For the new week, office hours have been adjusted to six hours, from 9 am to 3 pm, with bank transactions continuing from 10 am to 3 pm. The extended curfew relaxation aligns with this revised schedule.
