Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N): The Home Ministry has issued a directive instructing police not to refuse or delay the recording of cases, general diaries (GDs), and first information reports (FIRs). This action follows reports from the media and other sources highlighting such incidents.

According to a circular from the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry, signed by Senior Secretary Mohammad Abdul Momen, it is emphasized that immediate legal action must be taken without any delays in investigations or examinations.

The circular further underscores the importance of Bangladesh Police as a key institution in maintaining public security. The ministry believes that the police can restore their reputation by promptly addressing complaints and taking necessary legal measures.

This directive comes in the wake of a murder case filed at New Market police station after a prolonged protest. The case was filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, alleging her involvement in the death of photographer Tahir Zaman Priyo, who was killed on July 19 during student protests over government job quota reforms.

The victim's mother, Samsi Ara Zaman Koli, lodged the case, naming Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former Inspector General of Police Choudhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Zone Deputy Commissioner Ashraf Imam, former Additional Deputy Commissioner Hafiz Al Asad, and former New Market police station Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam as accused.

Koli accused Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner for New Market Zone Refatul Islam of intimidation and threats to prevent the case from being filed. Despite these challenges, the victim's family successfully filed the case after a 12-hour protest.
