Dhaka, September 03- The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a stern warning to curb various illegal activities, including anarchy, vandalism, arson, looting, extortion, and unauthorized actions. The "warning notice for public information" was released on Tuesday, aiming to maintain law and order in the country. The notice came just hours before the commencement of joint forces' operations, which began at midnight.
Highlighting the government's stance against such unlawful activities, the notification stated, "The government is making it clear that appropriate legal action will be taken against these activities that disturb public security. The government will identify all the miscreants and take immediate action against them, irrespective of party affiliation."
The warning comes in the wake of significant political upheaval. Following the fall of the authoritarian government on August 5, during a student uprising led by the anti-discrimination student movement, an interim government assumed control. The government’s notification reflected on the turbulent period, citing the excessive force used by the previous regime to suppress the popular movement, which resulted in numerous deaths, injuries, abductions, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings. The interim government has vowed to hold accountable those responsible for these abuses, amid widespread public anger toward the ousted government.
The Ministry's notice expressed concerns over recent developments, where certain groups, described as "overzealous and self-interested," have taken the law into their own hands. These actions include besieging institutions, forcing resignations, vandalism, arson, unauthorized searches, looting, extortion, influencing tender processes, pressuring police to accept numerous cases, and attacking accused individuals in court. The notice emphasized that such activities are attempts to destabilize the situation, assuring the public that all cases would be properly investigated and managed through lawful procedures.
The Ministry also stressed that any complaints should be reported to higher authorities and appropriate offices, rather than resorting to violent actions or surrounding institutions. The government reassured that searches, case filings, and other legal processes would be conducted in accordance with existing laws, with measures in place to prevent any form of harassment.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has called on all citizens to cooperate with the government to maintain law and order, reinforcing its commitment to a just and lawful governance framework.
