Dhaka, Nov 23 (V7N) – Bangladesh Bank will suspend direct customer services, including the sale of savings certificates and prize bonds, exchange of torn or damaged notes, and automated transactions, starting Sunday. The suspension will take effect simultaneously across all offices, including the central Motijheel branch.

The central bank has announced that it will increase supervision to ensure that commercial banks continue to provide services smoothly during this transition.

In a statement issued last Thursday, Bangladesh Bank noted that central banks worldwide do not offer such services directly to the public at their counters. As a Key Performance Indicator (KPI)-registered institution, Bangladesh Bank cited security concerns as the reason for suspending customer-related services.

Initially, the bank planned to halt these services at the Motijheel office on November 30 and gradually extend the suspension to other branches. However, the decision was moved forward to implement the suspension at all offices simultaneously. Previously, in addition to the Motijheel branch, customer services were available at the bank’s offices in Sadarghat (Dhaka), Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, Bogura, Rajshahi, and Sylhet.
