The Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Abdur Rahman, has announced plans to ensure an ample supply of 1 crore 3 million cattle for the upcoming Qurbani Eid festival. Speaking to reporters at the secretariat on Sunday, Minister Rahman emphasized that there is no decision to import cows, reassuring farmers that domestic production is sufficient to meet demand.

Last year, during Eid-ul-Adha, Bangladesh imported 1 crore 25 lakh cattle, with 19 lakh remaining unsold. This year, preparations have been made to have over 1.3 million cattle available for sacrifice, eliminating the need for imports, according to the Livestock Minister.

"We have assured the farmers that there is no reason to import cattle. Our arrangements and management are all right," Minister Rahman stated, highlighting the ministry's confidence in domestic cattle production.

Addressing concerns about potential market instability and the influence of middlemen, Minister Rahman stressed the ministry's proactive measures to ensure stability and affordability for consumers. Plans include holding an inter-ministerial meeting to address extortion and middlemen's influence on the cattle trade routes ahead of the festival.

Minister Rahman reiterated the government's commitment to supporting farmers and maintaining a stable market environment for the upcoming Eid celebration. With preparations underway and assurances of adequate supply, the ministry aims to mitigate challenges and ensure a smooth and successful Qurbani Eid festival for all.
