Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N)- Victims of the July Movement staged a protest in front of the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon on Wednesday (Feb 26), demanding the elimination of category discrimination, prompt rehabilitation and compensation for the injured, enactment of a special protection law, and the launch of an emergency hotline.
The protesters blocked the road, chanting slogans and demanding immediate government action. Among them, many injured individuals sat in front of the entrance gate, surrounded by police and APBN personnel responsible for security.
At one point, the special assistant to the chief adviser spoke with the protesters, assuring them that their demands would be forwarded to the concerned ministries. "Your sacrifice is undeniable, and it cannot be valued in money. However, government procedures must be followed. I have taken note of your demands and will deliver them to the appropriate authorities, requesting careful consideration. I urge you to withdraw your sit-in."
Despite this, a representative of the injured and their families firmly stated: "We will not leave until these three demands are met. We will continue our protest."
The special assistant then returned inside, leaving the demonstrators resolute in their stance.
This is not the first time July Movement victims have taken to the streets:
November 13, 2024: Injured individuals protested in front of Pangu Hospital for 13 hours, demanding better treatment.
February 1-2, 2025: They staged an all-night protest at Agargaon Pangu Hospital, later blocking major roads in Agargaon, Shyamoli, and Mirpur. That protest ended after assurances from Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Now, as they continue their fight for justice and recognition, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to their demands.
