Dhaka, Feb 20, (V7N) – A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 20 bank accounts belonging to former State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu and his wife, Seema Hamid, following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The accounts hold a total of Tk 2.1 crore (21 million BDT). The decision was made on Wednesday by Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib.
 
The court also ordered the seizure of 65 bighas (approximately 21 acres) of land registered in the name of Additional DIG of Police, Gazi Mojammel Hossain. The value of the land has been estimated at Tk 2.19 crore. In addition, the court ordered the confiscation of 12 land deeds worth Tk 2.76 crore in the name of his wife, Farzana Mojammel, and 10 land deeds valued at Tk 79.83 lakh (7.98 million BDT) in the name of their daughter, Gazi Bushra Tabassum. Furthermore, the court froze 28 bank accounts belonging to the family, holding a total of Tk 14.56 crore (145.6 million BDT).
 
On the same day, the court also froze 69 bank accounts belonging to Tanveer Imam, the son of the late political advisor to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, MP HT Imam, as well as those of his wife, Mahin Imam, and daughter, Manija Ismat Imam. The total balance in these accounts amounts to Tk 20.29 crore (202.9 million BDT). The court also ordered the seizure of their immovable property.
 
Additionally, following a petition by the ACC, the court ordered the seizure of 100 bighas of land, five buildings, and two flats in the name of former DB Chief Harunur Rashid. The court also froze 10 bank accounts, which hold a total of Tk 1.26 crore (12.69 million BDT).
 
In a separate case, a Dhaka court granted a five-day remand for former ministers Faruk Khan, Hasanul Haq Inu, and Rashed Khan Menon in connection with a case involving an attempted murder during an attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's convoy in 2015. The court granted the remand after an application by the investigating officer.
 
In another case, former Law Minister Anisul Haque was granted an additional five-day remand in the murder case of National Institute of Engineering and Technology student Abdullah Al Mahin.
 
Arrest of Former MP Salah Uddin Miazi
 
In a separate case, former MP from Jhenaidah-3 constituency and former military secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Major General (Retd.) Salah Uddin Miazi, was granted a two-day remand by a court in Jhenaidah. Miazi was arrested in connection with a case involving the burning of the Jhenaidah district BNP office. He was detained on Tuesday night by protesters from the anti-discrimination student movement, who had confined him in Shyamalchhaya Park in the Rudrapur area of Jessore. Law enforcement later took him into custody.
