Bagerhat, Feb 24, (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu has called for the government to announce a clear roadmap for the upcoming elections, ensuring the restoration of democracy in the country. He stated that the people of Bangladesh have sacrificed their lives for democracy and have been fighting for their rights, including the right to vote. Bulu emphasized the need for a fair and transparent election process and requested the announcement of how and when the elections would take place.

In a speech on Sunday (Feb 23) at a rally organized by the district BNP at Khan Jahan Ali (R) Dargah field in Bagerhat, Bulu expressed his concerns regarding the current situation. He urged the interim government to take charge of the country's affairs responsibly, manage the soaring prices of essentials, and maintain law and order.

Bulu also reminded the gathering of the significant support from BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for Dr. Yunus during the political crises when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina filed cases against him. He recounted how the political parties united to support Dr. Yunus, who eventually became the Chief Adviser of the Caretaker Government.

He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh have struggled for their democratic rights since 2014, with many not being able to vote due to the lack of a fair electoral system. He said, "We have fought for our civic rights, including the right to vote, and for our guaranteed right to a normal life. We demand the restoration of democracy."

Further, Bulu criticized the current government, stating that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's regime has been responsible for the deaths of many political workers and has destroyed the electoral system. He also expressed discontent over the absence of justice for political crimes under her government. He criticized the government's actions and demanded accountability for their alleged misdeeds.

Bulu urged the BNP workers to stay united and inspired by the ideals of the late President Ziaur Rahman. He encouraged the party workers to continue their fight for the rights of the people and to support the upcoming democratic movement.

During the event, other BNP leaders also spoke, including BNP's Research Secretary Shamsur Rahman Shamim, former MP Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, central committee member Adv. Ahiduzzaman Deepu, district BNP’s former president MA Salam, district secretary Mozafor Rahman Alam, and several other leaders. The rally was presided over by district BNP's Convener ATM Akram Hossain Talim.

The rally called for greater unity within the party to challenge the current government's undemocratic practices and to work towards holding a free and fair election.
