Rangamati, Feb 23, (V7N) – After a gap of almost 20 years, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will host a major political rally in Rangamati on February 24, 2025, at the Abdul Shukkur Stadium, located near the central Shaheed Minar of the city. This event is a part of BNP's nationwide political campaign to address pressing issues, including the rising prices of essential commodities, improvement of law and order, and demands for neutral elections in Bangladesh.

Preparations and Expectations

BNP’s leaders and activists are preparing for what is expected to be a grand event, with an anticipated attendance of around 50,000 people. The rally is expected to bring together members from various parts of Rangamati district, including both indigenous and Bangladeshi communities, marking a pivotal moment for the party's regional mobilization. The political gathering will be an important demonstration of BNP’s commitment to promoting "Bangladeshi nationalism," as well as its "Rainbow Umbrella" concept, which aims to unify different ethnic and cultural groups in the country.

Focus on Socio-Political Issues

The central theme of the rally will focus on addressing the economic struggles facing ordinary citizens due to rising prices, as well as improving the country’s deteriorating law and order situation. Additionally, the BNP is using this rally to demand the holding of free and fair elections, a point of major concern as the country’s political environment has been under scrutiny in recent years.

This rally will also serve as a platform for the party to present its “31-point reform agenda,” aiming for significant changes in Bangladesh’s political and economic landscape.

Key Speakers and Attendees

The rally will be addressed by several key leaders of BNP, including Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Chattogram Division Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, and former Deputy Minister of the Hill District, Moniswapan Dewan, among others. Local leaders such as Rangamati District BNP President Dipon Talukder Dipu, and Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun, the General Secretary, will also speak at the event.

Dipu stated that the rally has generated a great deal of excitement among BNP’s workers, and extensive efforts have been made to ensure participation from all corners of the district. He mentioned that party members have been distributing leaflets to the public, urging them to join the rally and show their support for the party's demands for social and economic reforms.

Historical Context

The upcoming rally in Rangamati will mark the return of BNP to the region after nearly two decades, since its last major rally in 2005, which was addressed by then-Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. This makes the upcoming event all the more significant for BNP supporters in the hill district.

Security and Preparations

Rangamati District BNP officials have also confirmed that they have already obtained the necessary permissions from local law enforcement authorities and have ensured all security measures are in place. Additionally, several committees have been formed, including those for maintaining discipline, managing media coverage, and providing health services, to ensure the event runs smoothly.

In conclusion, this rally is seen as a major political event for both the BNP and the people of Rangamati. With its focus on national unity and the promotion of political reforms, the event is expected to invigorate BNP’s presence in the region and reaffirm its commitment to the political change they advocate for across Bangladesh.
