Dhaka, Feb 21 (V7N) –BNP’s National Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said that reform is not the concern of any individual or group but should be carried out based on the will of the people.
“BNP’s 31-point proposals did not emerge out of nowhere. These proposals were formulated through the consensus of all political parties that have struggled and launched movements alongside BNP over the past 15 years,” Amir Khasru said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking International Mother Language Day at the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela.
The month-long boi mela is being held at the Stadium Gymnasium premises, organized by the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).
“We must take the 31-point reform proposals to the people. If they support and accept this agenda and vote for us, we will take the necessary steps to implement it,” Khasru added.
He also noted that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia had announced Vision-2030 six years ago, which contained several timely reform initiatives for the nation.
“There was extensive discussion and debate among us in formulating the 31-point reform proposals. Many changes were made before reaching a consensus,” he said.
Khasru emphasized that if BNP wins the upcoming election, all the parties that stood alongside it in the struggle against dictatorship and envisioned a "New Bangladesh" will work together to implement the reform proposals by forming a national government.
“BNP will not execute the reform programs alone. Instead, we will implement them collectively through a national government. We are committed to the nation in this regard,” he said.
He further said: “We are not saying that the 31-point proposals will be implemented exactly as they are. They will also be discussed in parliament. Our goal is to restore the democratic process in the country and reflect the people's aspirations by correcting past mistakes and errors.”
Addressing concerns over the education system, he said: “School and college students have suffered greatly as they were forced to study and learn the philosophies and ideologies of the previous regime through the curriculum. Those who expressed different opinions through their writings became victims of false cases and faced various forms of intimidation.”
