Dhaka, Mar 17 (V7N)- Protesting Metrorail workers have called off their strike after receiving assurances from the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). Ticket sales, which were halted for about an hour and a half, have now resumed across various stations.

The strike began on Monday morning after four Metrorail workers were allegedly assaulted by MRT police.

In response, DMTCL officials and employees staged a sudden protest, halting the sale of tickets and MRT passes at Metrorail stations.

Despite the strike, train services remained operational to avoid public suffering.

Due to the suspension of ticket sales, passengers without tickets were able to travel for free during the protest period.

At around 10:30 AM, after discussions with the Metrorail Managing Director, the protesting workers withdrew their strike and returned to work.

The ticketing system was fully restored after about 90 minutes of disruption.

Authorities are expected to investigate the alleged assault and take necessary actions to prevent such incidents in the future.
