Dhaka, Dec 01 (V7N)- A group is spreading negative propaganda abroad about Bangladesh, including allegations of security risks, which has begun affecting the country’s export sector. However, Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin believes the situation is temporary and does not require any special countermeasures.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the Global Sourcing Expo, organized by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), on Monday afternoon.
At the event, BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem said that political instability is creating pressure on export-oriented industries. He, however, welcomed the government’s decision to sign agreements with foreign partners for port management, stating that such collaboration will improve efficiency.
Trade Advisor Bashiruddin noted that Bangladesh is on the brink of graduating from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category. While this marks significant progress, he said the new status will bring additional challenges.
“To overcome the transition smoothly, export markets must be diversified and expanded,” he added.
The Global Sourcing Expo is showcasing the country’s growing capabilities across multiple sectors, including ready-made garments, leather goods, jute and agricultural products, plastics and kitchenware, pharmaceuticals, and information technology.
