Dhaka, June 5 (V7N) – Thousands of holidaymakers are leaving the capital to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families, causing a massive rush at Kamalapur Railway Station. On Thursday, the station witnessed overwhelming crowds, with almost every train packed beyond capacity. Many passengers were even seen riding on rooftops.
Despite the Eid holidays being a joyous occasion, the journey home turned into a test of endurance for many. Passengers expressed frustration over the sale of tickets exceeding seat capacity—both online and through standing ticket allocations. As a result, countless people were forced to travel standing, clinging to doors, or perilously sitting on train roofs.
“There’s no space inside. We had no choice but to climb onto the roof,” said a passenger heading to Rajshahi.
Railway authorities, however, ensured that trains were departing on schedule, with no major disruptions reported in departure times.
While timely departures were appreciated, commuters called for better crowd management and stricter oversight of ticket sales, urging authorities to prioritize safety and comfort during future Eid travel seasons.
