Dhaka, Dec 15 (V7N) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three more individuals, including the wife of prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud, in connection with the attempted killing of Inqilab Mancha Convener Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, RAB said the arrests were carried out in Narayanganj and Dhaka. The detainees are Faisal’s wife Samia, his brother-in-law Shipu, and his friend Maria.
RAB Media Wing Director Intekhob Chowdhury said Samia and Shipu were arrested from Narayanganj, while Maria was detained in Dhaka. He said investigators found evidence of frequent phone communication between the suspects and Faisal both before and after the shooting incident.
With these arrests, the total number of detainees in the case has risen to four. Earlier, Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used during the shooting, was arrested. He was later shown arrested under Section 54 and placed on a three-day police remand.
The attack took place on Friday afternoon, Dec 12, a day after the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Osman Hadi was shot from a moving motorcycle while riding in a rickshaw in the Bijoynagar area of Dhaka, leaving him critically injured.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery before being shifted to the Intensive Care Unit. He is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital.
According to the latest medical update, Osman Hadi’s condition remains stable but unchanged. He is scheduled to be flown to Singapore on Monday afternoon via air ambulance for advanced medical treatment.
The decision was taken during an emergency call conference on Sunday, following directives from Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Participants in the call included Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Health Affairs Professor Md. Sayedur Rahman, Evercare Hospital specialist Dr. Zafar, and Osman Hadi’s brother Omar Bin Hadi. The information was later confirmed in a press statement issued by the Press Wing.
The statement said the government had contacted several hospitals in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia over the past two days regarding Osman Hadi’s treatment. Following consultations with Evercare Hospital’s specialist team and the victim’s family, the matter was formally placed before the Chief Adviser.
Professor Md. Sayedur Rahman informed Dr. Yunus that Osman Hadi’s physical condition is currently stable. All arrangements for the air ambulance, medical team, and travel have already been completed, and comprehensive treatment preparations have been made at the Accident and Emergency Department of Singapore General Hospital.
The government will bear all medical expenses related to Osman Hadi’s treatment. Dr. Yunus has instructed the concerned authorities to closely monitor the entire treatment process.
The Chief Adviser has also requested prayers from the nation for Osman Hadi’s swift recovery.
