Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N)— Heavy rains across Bangladesh are expected to persist for the next 24 hours, according to the Met Office. While the intensity of the rainfall is predicted to lessen after this period, intermittent showers are likely to continue for the next six days.

Meteorologist Md. Abdur Rahman Khan shared the forecast on Saturday morning, noting that Dhaka will experience rain throughout the day. The divisions of Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Rangpur are particularly at risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

As of Saturday morning, Dhaka had received 69 millimetres of rainfall under the influence of a low-pressure system, while Chandpur recorded the highest rainfall in the country at 278 mm.

The Met Office has also warned of potential landslides in hilly areas due to the continuous heavy rains.

In Dhaka, the rain that began on Friday evening has led to widespread waterlogging, with major roads seeing slow-moving traffic despite the weekend. Vehicles are moving cautiously as downpours intensify in parts of the capital.

According to the forecast for the next 24 hours from Friday evening, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience light to moderate rain, accompanied by gusty winds or thunderstorms.
