Dhaka, Oct 25 (V7N)- Cyclone Dana crossed the Odisha coast of India early Thursday morning around 3:30 a.m., bringing significant winds and heavy rains to the region. The cyclone is now positioned over North Odisha and surrounding areas, with meteorologist Khandaker Hafizur Rahman confirming that the risk to Bangladesh has passed.
In an update on Friday morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued Special Bulletin No. 13, indicating that Cyclone Dana, now located in the northwest Bay of Bengal, has continued its west-northwest trajectory over Odisha. It is expected to weaken gradually as it moves further inland. However, under its influence, gusty winds may still affect the North Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh’s coastal areas, and nearby seaports.
Local warning signal No. 3 remains in effect for Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports. The Meteorological Department has advised fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and the deep sea to stay in safe harbor until Saturday morning, October 26.
Across Odisha, the storm has uprooted trees and power lines in multiple locations, with the southern regions, including Kolkata, experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall. In preparation for the severe weather, authorities in Odisha issued a red alert across 16 districts, including East and West Medinipur and South 24 Parganas, predicting flash floods due to intense rainfall. Fortunately, early warnings helped mitigate damage, and no casualties have been reported. The cyclone is anticipated to weaken by Friday evening as it continues to move inland.
