DHAKA, April 5, (V7N) – After enduring several days of blistering heat, residents of Dhaka breathed a sigh of relief Saturday evening as a sudden downpour swept across the capital, bringing much-needed respite from the sweltering conditions.

The rain began around 7 pm and quickly cooled the city, with temperatures dropping to 29°C from a scorching daytime high of 37.2°C — one of the hottest days of the year so far. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the showers were caused by a brief monsoon shift.

Locals across neighborhoods like Mouchak, Malibagh, Farmgate, Banglamotor, and Moghbazar reported heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusts, which helped alleviate not only the heat but also the suffocating humidity that had gripped the city.

Despite the temporary relief, BMD warned that heatwave conditions persist in several districts. A cautionary signal was issued for river ports in Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Faridpur, Dhaka, Tangail, and Sylhet, where gusty winds of 45–60 km/h are expected due to ongoing thunderstorms. Authorities advised river ports to hoist cautionary signal number one (r).
