Panchagarh, Nov 28 (V7N) — Winter’s grip is tightening across Panchagarh, the northernmost district at the foot of the Himalayas, as cold winds and heavy moisture make daily life increasingly difficult for residents.
Since dawn, chilly gusts have been sweeping through the area, leaving people shivering. For several days, the sharp contrast between warm daytime sunshine and biting nighttime cold has added to the suffering of locals.
On Friday (November 28), the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory recorded the day’s lowest temperature at 13.2°C at 9 am, with 59 percent humidity.
According to the Meteorological Office, the fluctuating temperature is due to the cold wind blowing down from the Himalayas. Officials warned that despite the current variation, temperatures are expected to drop further, intensifying winter conditions across the district.
Habibur Rahman, a farmer from Tentulia’s Buraburi area, said, “My hands and feet freeze as soon as I open my shop in the morning. The cold wind hits directly. People don’t go out much in this weather, so business is also suffering.”
Jahangir Hossain, a rickshaw puller from the district town, echoed the struggle: “Earnings have dropped. People avoid going outside in this cold. Still, I have to work, so I wear thick clothes and keep pulling the rickshaw.”
Meteorological Observatory in-charge Jitendranath Roy said the temperature has been fluctuating for days and the cold has now set in. He warned that the cold may intensify further in early December, with the possibility of a seasonal cold wave.
