Mongla, Oct 26 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 106 kilograms of deer meat and hunting traps, arresting one suspected poacher during an early morning operation in the Sundarbans’ Nolian area.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, media officer of the Coast Guard (Dhaka), said the operation was conducted around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday based on confidential intelligence. A Coast Guard team launched a raid in the forested area of Nolian, where they recovered 106 kilograms of freshly butchered deer meat and approximately 200 meters of wire traps used for illegal hunting. One individual was detained at the scene.

Authorities said the detained suspect was allegedly part of a poaching network involved in killing deer in the Sundarbans and selling the meat in nearby coastal markets. Legal proceedings are underway against the suspect, and the seized venison and traps have been secured for further investigation.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque stated that the Coast Guard remains firmly committed to preventing wildlife poaching and smuggling in protected forest zones. “Operations to stop the killing and trafficking of wildlife will continue across the coastal and forest regions,” he said.

Officials added that the latest raid was part of a broader effort to curb the illegal hunting of spotted deer, which are protected under Bangladesh’s Wildlife Conservation Act, as poachers increasingly target the Sundarbans’ biodiversity-rich areas.
