Rangamati, Dec 31 (V7N) — A woman in Rangamati has filed a case accusing a Sonali Bank official and his wife of rape, secretly recording videos and photographs, long-term mental harassment, attempted extortion, and spreading the content on social media.

According to police sources, the victim, identified as Chandana Chakma (pseudonym), 42, appeared at Rangamati Kotwali Police Station on December 29, 2025, and submitted a written complaint seeking legal protection after allegedly being subjected to repeated blackmail.

As stated in the complaint, Chandana went to Sonali Bank’s Reserve Bazar branch to seek a loan due to financial necessity, where she became acquainted with Principal Officer Nixon Chakma, 40. She alleged that on November 8, 2024, at around 4:30pm, Nixon Chakma lured her to a room on the second floor of a residential hotel in Rangamati town under the pretext of facilitating quick loan approval.

The victim alleged that the officer locked the door, forcibly raped her, and secretly recorded videos and still images during the assault. She further claimed that the accused later threatened to spread the footage on social media and continued blackmailing her for an extended period.

According to the case statement, every 15 to 20 days the accused sent the recorded videos and images through an application called “Zangi,” pressuring her to engage in further physical relations.

The complaint further alleged that on December 20, 2025, at around 5:45pm, Nixon Chakma’s wife, Anuradha Chakma, 37, sent SMS messages to the victim claiming possession of the videos and images and demanded money. Initially, Tk 150,000 was demanded, which was later increased to Tk 500,000, accompanied by threats to circulate the content among relatives and on social media if the money was not paid.

The victim stated that after she failed to meet the demands within the given time, the accused shared the rape videos and still images through Facebook Messenger and other social media platforms.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jasim Uddin confirmed the matter to the reporter, saying a case has been registered based on the victim’s written complaint. The case was filed as Case No. 15 dated December 29, 2025, recorded as GR No. 133.

Charges have been brought under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, and Sections 8(1), 8(2), and 8(3) of the Pornography Control Act, 2012.

The OC said investigation is ongoing and police operations are underway to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, attempts to contact accused Nixon Chakma for comment were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was found switched off. However, when contacted via WhatsApp, he requested that no news be published on the matter, replying, “Brother, I am not in a condition to talk.”

When approached for comment, the duty manager of Sonali Bank’s Rangamati branch said he was unaware of the allegations and described Nixon Chakma as a capable and prudent officer. Responding to a query, the manager said Nixon Chakma had taken two days of leave, which ended on Monday, and submitted another leave application on Tuesday morning citing family reasons.
