Naikhongchhari, Jan 07 (V7N) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained two individuals, including a Myanmar national, from the Ghumdhum border area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban district and seized a goods-laden auto-rickshaw.
The arrests were made on Tuesday afternoon from the Baishfari border area under Ghumdhum Union. The detainees were identified as Nye Yi Zaw (38), son of Aizan Tun of Daik village in Maungdaw district of Myanmar, and Saipuching Tongchangya (20), son of Kalaiya Tongchangya from Baishfari area of Naikhongchhari.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team of BGB-34 conducted an operation about one and a half kilometers inside Bangladesh near border pillar number 37 in the Baishfari area. During the operation, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was searched, leading to the recovery of various Bangladeshi goods that had allegedly been transported illegally across the border. Both individuals were detained on the spot.
Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, Commanding Officer of BGB-34, confirmed the incident. He said BGB is maintaining zero tolerance against smuggling, drug trafficking, and other cross-border crimes, and such operations will continue alongside regular border security efforts.
