Dhaka, Jan 03 (V7N) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has confirmed that the charge sheet for the murder case of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Osman Hadi is being prepared and will be submitted within the previously announced deadline. Investigators are also verifying various videos and claims circulating on social media. The DB had announced that the charge sheet would be filed by January 7.
The primary suspect, Faisal Karim Masud, has been the subject of multiple conflicting reports on social media regarding his whereabouts and his escape from the country. Some videos claim his mobile phone location is in the DOHS area of Dhaka, allegedly at a senior army officer’s residence, while others show him claiming innocence and naming individuals who allegedly helped him leave the country. The authenticity of these videos is yet to be verified.
DB Commissioner Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam stated, “We are aware of multiple claims and voice recordings circulating online and are verifying them. However, our investigation is proceeding independently. Locations mentioned for Faisal cannot be confirmed without proper verification, and the truth will emerge through our inquiry.”
On Friday, a gathering under the banner of Inqilab Manch was held in Shahbagh, demanding the arrest and swift trial of those involved in Hadi’s murder. The organizers gave the government a 30-day ultimatum.
According to reports, a recent video claims Faisal is in Sharjah, Dubai, and alleges assistance from RAB-2 personnel, SSI Tushar and source Kausar Molla, though RAB officials denied any officer named Tushar exists in their unit and no detailed information was available regarding Kausar Molla.
Digital experts warn that mobile location data cannot reliably identify a specific house. A mobile tower’s coverage in urban areas typically ranges from 300 meters to one kilometer, encompassing multiple multi-story buildings and thousands of flats. Call Detail Record (CDR) data only confirms presence within a tower’s coverage area, not a specific unit.
Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 while riding a rickshaw on Kalvert Road, Bijoynagar, Dhaka. CCTV footage shows two assailants on a motorcycle firing at him. Investigators have identified the shooter as former Chhatra League leader Faisal Karim Masud, with Alamgir Hossain, also known as Alamgir Sheikh, driving the motorcycle. Within 12 hours, both crossed into India via the Dhobaura–Haluaghat border in Mymensingh.
Hadi was campaigning as an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 at the time. Eleven individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the murder.
