Shariatpur, Jan 11 (V7N): Al-Amin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jazira Police Station in Shariatpur, was found dead in his quarters on Thursday afternoon. Police suspect suicide as the cause, and a three-member investigation committee has been formed by the district police superintendent to probe the incident.
On-duty officers discovered Al-Amin’s body hanging from a window in his bedroom on the second floor of the police station building around 1:15 PM. The Dhaka CID forensic team conducted a preliminary investigation, and the body was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Al-Amin’s brother, Abul Kalam, filed an unnatural death case following the incident.
Mental Health Struggles
Both police sources and family members revealed that Al-Amin had been battling depression for the past two years. He joined Jazira Police Station as OC on September 14 last year and served diligently for nearly four months. Prior to this posting, he worked at the Gazipur Police Outpost in Barguna district.
Dr. Monirul Islam Monir from Shariatpur Police Hospital stated, “Medicines typically prescribed for depression were found at the scene.”
Shariatpur Police Superintendent Mohammad Nazirul Islam acknowledged that Al-Amin’s mental health struggles were previously kept confidential but were later disclosed by the family.
Investigation Underway
The three-member committee is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding Al-Amin’s death, including his mental health history and possible workplace factors contributing to his condition.
Authorities have urged patience as the investigation progresses, promising to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
